ScanWritr is suitable for business, educational, and personal use. It transforms your Apple device with a camera into an all-in-one scanner, document editor, and archiving tool. It facilitates scanning, organizing, editing, printing, faxing, emailing, syncing with the cloud, sharing, and exporting various documents like contracts, articles, business cards, notes, receipts, and warranty papers. Image capture is assisted by Real-Time Edge Detection for automatic cropping.

The app provides various import options supporting a range of document formats such as PDFs, OpenOffice and LibreOffice documents (ODT, ODS, ODP), Microsoft Office documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Hancom documents (HWP), JPEG and PNG images, CSV files, among others.

ScanWritr allows you to edit scanned and imported documents as images. You can add signatures, annotations, use erasers or pens, fill out forms using the writing tool. Convert scanned documents to PDF or JPG formats; save them to your phone gallery; share via email; fax; print using Cloud Print; or synchronize and backup to Dropbox or iCloud.

Synchronization with Dropbox and iCloud cloud storage enables you to:

• Share documents with family or team members at work.
• Remotely back up your documents.
• Synchronize shared folders bi-directionally.
• Access, edit, and convert your documents from any device—smartphones to PCs—anytime and anywhere.
• Transfer documents across devices (phones, tablets, PCs).

Some functionalities (e.g., faxing, converting) require a network connection for which carrier fees may apply. Sending faxes from ScanWritr necessitates purchasing fax tokens.

All limitations of the free version can be removed by making an in-app purchase at any time.
